Midwest weekend

I went back to the Midwest again last weekend. Since Mom is so tired and her responsiveness is dwindling, my sister Lauri flew back with my niece, Lila. She’s not sure she can make it back again until April. It was a short trip but a good visit. My grandparents didn’t have any power so we didn’t stay at the farm – they were at a hotel – but still spent all day Saturday with them as well as Sunday brunch. Mom was more tired this weekend than last, possibly because they switched her blood pressure medication to try to get her pressure down into a safe range. She’s not displaying any signs of being in pain (thank goodness!) but is so sleepy all the time.

It's nice that I'm so close now - just a hour-and-a-half flight and then 100-mile drive (instead of taking ALL day to get there from San Diego). Plus I bought the flights 26 hours before I flew and they weren't expensive!

And fun to spend time with my brother John and his wife, as well as Lauri and Lila. On Saturday afternoon there was a man playing the piano at the nursing home and Lila was dancing up a storm! I've not seen so many smiles on faces in a long time.
